Her full-length mystery novel <em>Force and Fraud<\/em> was published in 1865, pre-dating Fergus Hume&#8217;s more famous <em>The Mystery of a Hansom Cab (<\/em>1886).<\/p>\n<p>Sisters in Crime put on a truly gala occasion at the Thornbury Theatre. It was packed with female crime writers and crime afficionados (afficionadas?) with a few brothers-in-law there as well. Both Verities have been on the long-list before, and I was thrilled this time to be shortlisted along with Catherine Jinks (<em>Theophilus Grey and the Demon Thief<\/em>) and RA Spratt for <em>Friday Barnes:Under Suspricion<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/veritysparks.com\/?attachment_id=3774\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3774\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3774\" src=\"https:\/\/veritysparks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Susan-Green-and-Liane-Moriarty.jpg\" alt=\"susan-green-and-liane-moriarty\" width=\"3456\" height=\"5184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/veritysparks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Susan-Green-and-Liane-Moriarty.jpg 3456w, https:\/\/veritysparks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Susan-Green-and-Liane-Moriarty-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/veritysparks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Susan-Green-and-Liane-Moriarty-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/veritysparks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Susan-Green-and-Liane-Moriarty-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3456px) 100vw, 3456px\" \/><\/a>Best selling author Liane Moriarty (<em>Big Little Lies, Truly Madly Guilty<\/em>) was interviewed (or interrogated, according to the programme) and it was interesting to hear that though she&#8217;s been a multi-million bestseller in the US for a number of years, it&#8217;s taken the Australian reading public a while to catch on.
